Just Press Record vs AnyScribe

Both apps record on Apple Watch without your iPhone nearby and transcribe once the recording reaches the phone. Just Press Record is a $9.99 one-time purchase with unlimited recording, iCloud Drive sync to Mac and iPad, a watch complication, and transcription in 30+ languages. AnyScribe is free to download with 30 free minutes, then non-expiring credits from $1.99 per hour, and adds an AI summary to every recording, 50+ languages, and transcription of YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, and podcast links on the same iPhone. Pick Just Press Record if you want a recorder you buy once and sync across Apple devices. Pick AnyScribe if you want summaries and links, or you record rarely enough that credits cost less than $9.99.

Who is choosing between these two

  • Apple Watch owners who record voice notes on a walk or in a meeting and read them later on iPhone

  • People who searched for Just Press Record and want to know what it lacks before paying

  • Anyone who wants one app for wrist recordings and for transcribing videos, podcasts, and voice messages

Recording on the watch

Both apps record on Apple Watch with the iPhone out of range and keep recording in the background. Just Press Record adds a watch-face complication for one-tap recording, a Siri Shortcut to start, swipe to pause, and playback of recent recordings through the watch speaker or AirPods. Recordings have no time limit.

AnyScribe (shown as "Transcribe" on the watch) has a single Record button and exposes Start, Stop, and Start or Stop Recording shortcuts, so the Action Button on Apple Watch Ultra starts and ends a recording with one press. There is no complication and no playback on the watch. Recordings made offline are queued and sent to the iPhone when the two reconnect.

Where the transcript appears

Neither app transcribes on the watch. Just Press Record transfers watch recordings to a Watch tab on the iPhone, where you tap to transcribe; the text is editable inside the app, and recordings stored in iCloud Drive sync to the iPad and Mac apps, which can also transcribe. Transcription covers 30+ languages, independent of the device language.

AnyScribe transcribes every watch recording automatically on the iPhone and adds an AI summary, with language detection across 50+ languages, including German, Korean, and Japanese. Transcripts stay in the AnyScribe library on the iPhone; there is no Mac or iPad app, so sharing to Notes, Files, or another app is how text leaves the phone.

Price

Just Press Record is $9.99 once on the US App Store with no in-app purchases, and that covers iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Apple Watch. If you record every day, nothing else comes close on cost.

AnyScribe is free to install with 30 minutes of transcription, then credit packs that never expire: $1.99 for one hour, $5.99 for four. There is no subscription. Ten hours of recordings a year costs roughly what Just Press Record costs once; past that, Just Press Record is cheaper, unless the summaries and link transcription are what you came for.

What only one of them does

Only Just Press Record offers a complication, watch playback, iCloud Drive storage visible in the Files app, Mac and iPad apps, audio editing in a waveform view, and pro-quality recording up to 96 kHz from external microphones.

Only AnyScribe produces an AI summary, transcribes links from YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, Spotify, and Apple Podcasts, transcribes voice messages shared from WhatsApp or Telegram, and returns transcripts to Apple Shortcuts through its Transcribe Link and Get Transcript actions.

FAQ

Common questions

Does Just Press Record transcribe on the Apple Watch?
No. Recordings transfer to the iPhone, where you transcribe them in the Watch tab. AnyScribe works the same way, except that transcription and the summary start automatically when the recording arrives.
Which app works offline on the watch?
Both. Just Press Record and AnyScribe record with the iPhone out of range and sync when it is back. Only the transcription step needs the iPhone, and AnyScribe's transcription also needs an internet connection on the phone.
Does Just Press Record sync through iCloud?
Yes. Recordings stored in iCloud Drive appear on iPhone, iPad, Mac, and in the Files app. Watch recordings sync to the iPhone first. AnyScribe keeps transcripts on the iPhone and has no iCloud Drive library.
Which one supports German or Korean?
Both transcribe German and Korean. Just Press Record lists 30+ transcription languages chosen independently of the device language; AnyScribe detects the language automatically across 50+ languages.
Can I start recording from the Action Button on Apple Watch Ultra?
With AnyScribe, yes: assign its Start or Stop Recording shortcut to the Action Button. Just Press Record documents a complication and a Siri Shortcut for starting a recording, which you can also bind to the Action Button through Shortcuts.
Is Just Press Record a subscription?
No. It is a $9.99 one-time purchase on the US App Store with no in-app purchases. AnyScribe is not a subscription either: it sells credit packs that never expire.
